Just closed on a house in Lakewood, turning over a rental in Lake Highlands, or lost a key ring in Uptown? We rekey your existing locks on the spot so the old keys stop working – usually faster and cheaper than replacing hardware.

Rekeying changes the inside of the lock, not the lock itself. We take out the cylinder, replace the small pin tumblers so they match a brand-new key, and put it back. Your deadbolts and handles stay on the door, the old keys no longer turn, and you walk away with fresh keys that work.
Because nothing has to be bought or installed, a rekey is the quickest way to take back control of a Dallas home, apartment or office. Most houses take well under an hour, and our vans carry pins for the brands you find all over the city – Kwikset, Schlage, Defiant, Weiser and most commercial cylinders.
Rekey when the locks work smoothly and you're happy with how they look – you just don't know who else has a key. That covers most move-ins, lost keys and tenant changes. You keep the hardware, only the key changes.
Replace when a lock is damaged, loose, sticking or won't latch, when you want a stronger deadbolt or a keypad, or when the finish no longer matches. A lot of 1920s–1950s houses in East Dallas, the M Streets and Oak Cliff have worn original hardware – there we'll show you what's failing and let you choose. See our lock change service in Dallas.
If the front door, back door and garage entry each use a different key, we can rekey them to one key as long as the locks share the same keyway – most homes with a single brand of hardware qualify. Mixed brands can often be solved by swapping one or two cylinders.
Older homes often come with keys nobody can account for – previous owners, contractors, neighbors. We rekey every exterior lock and flag any original hardware that's worn out.
Landlords and property managers call us between tenants. We rekey on move-out day so the next tenant gets keys nobody else has.
When a roommate moves out or keys go missing, we rekey the unit's deadbolt and mailbox lock, and coordinate with the front desk for access.
After an employee leaves, we rekey the cylinders or set up a master key system so managers carry one key and staff only open what they need.
A real person answers. Tell us your address and what you need, and you get an honest arrival time.
The nearest technician drives to your Dallas home or business with the parts on board.
We rekey each cylinder at your door, test every new key in every lock, and hand you the keys before we leave.
Most homes with three or four exterior locks take about 30–60 minutes once we arrive. Larger homes, high-security cylinders or doors that need adjustment can take longer – we'll tell you up front.
Usually, yes. A rekey reuses your existing hardware, so you're not paying for new locks – only the new pins, keys and labor.
Most residential and commercial locks can. Very cheap or damaged locks, and some electronic locks, may need to be replaced instead. We'll check each one before we start.
We recommend it. There's no way to know how many copies were made for family, cleaners, contractors or past tenants. Rekeying after closing is the simplest way to be sure only you have access.
Yes. SmartKey cylinders can be rekeyed quickly, and if the mechanism is worn we can reset or replace the cylinder on the spot.
Someone 18 or older needs to be there to let us in and show proof of residency or ownership, so we can verify it's your property before changing the keys.
